The WHO reported 208 deaths and over 99,000 mpox cases in 116 nations from January 2022 to June 2024. A more transmissible strain, clade Ib, drove the outbreak in Africa. The WHO and Africa CDC are working to distribute vaccines, but earlier access could have reduced cases significantly, especially in Africa.
