Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a new AI tool called iStar, which can interpret medical images with unprecedented clarity. The tool provides highly detailed views of individual cells and the full spectrum of how genes operate. It can detect cancer cells that are virtually invisible and determine safe margins in cancer surgeries. iStar can automatically detect tertiary lymphoid structures, which correlate with patient survival and response to immunotherapy. By contrast, the best competitor AI tool took more than 32 hours to come up with a similar analysis, making iStar 213 times faster.
