Chinese astronauts set up new lab on space station

Astronauts entered the new lab module of China's space station for the first time Monday, in a major step towards completing the orbital outpost by the end of the year. The station is one of the crown jewels of Beijing's ambitious space programme, which has landed robotic rovers on Mars and the Moon, and made China only the third nation to put humans in orbit.

NASA aiming for late August test flight of giant moon rocket

On the 53rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, NASA announced on Wednesday it's shooting for a late August launch of its giant, new moon rocket. NASA will attempt the more than month-long lunar test flight with three mannequins, but no astronauts, as early as August 29. There are also two launch dates in early September, before NASA would have to stand down for two weeks.

Scientists find an exotic black hole deemed a 'needle in a haystack'

Researchers said on Monday this one differs from all other known black holes in that it is "X-ray quiet" - not emitting powerful X-ray radiation indicative of gobbling up nearby material with its strong gravitational pull - and that it was not born in a stellar blast called a supernova.

Nasa's new telescope shows star death, dancing galaxies

Nasa on Tuesday unveiled a new batch of images from its new powerful space telescope, including a foamy blue and orange shot of a dying star. The images were released one-by-one at an event at Nasa’s Goddard Space Center that included cheerleaders with pompoms the color of the telescope’s golden mirrors.

Can BCG boosters check TB's spread? ICMR to find out

In a move that can be crucial in tuberculosis elimination, ICMR's apex TB research institute plans to start a BCG booster trial among kids and adolescents of 6-18 years to check whether re-vaccination can help prevent tuberculosis spread in household contacts of TB patients. The health ministry is likely to discuss funding proposal for the study on Tuesday.
